DJI Osmo Mobile 7P

I use the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P myself, and it is a clear recommendation for stabilized smartphone footage in an IRL stream. Three-axis stabilization, a built-in extension pole, and a tripod make a versatile package. The multifunction module adds tracking, light, and support for compatible DJI microphones.

2. Example live stream with the Osmo Mobile 7P

This full live stream shows the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P in real mobile use. That way you can judge the stabilization not just from technical specs but over a longer stretch and under real movement.

3. DJI Osmo Mobile 8

The Osmo Mobile 8 is the newer version, and also a very good one. Besides three-axis stabilization, it offers 360-degree pan rotation, native AI tracking with audio and lighting, plus a built-in extension pole and tripod. It is interesting if you deliberately want the more current feature set.

For Moblin, the gimbal stabilizes the smartphone mechanically. App features like tracking or camera control depend on the smartphone, operating system, and app version you use, though, and should be fully tested before a long stream.

5. Check before going IRL

What to test before the stream
TopicWhat to check
BalanceTake off cases that get in the way, balance the phone, and clamp it in tight
Freedom of movementDoes landscape work? Where do the cables run? Can you still reach the charging port?
AccessoriesA USB-C microphone receiver, the power supply, and the gimbal must not get in each other's way
TrackingDepends on smartphone, operating system, and app version
DurationIn a longer test stream, watch how warm it gets and how long the battery lasts

6. FAQ on smartphone gimbals

What does three-axis stabilization mean?

Motors counter three rotations of the phone: tilt, pan, and roll. With footsteps and hand movement, the picture stays steadier than with a phone held freely.

Does a gimbal make my picture steadier than my phone's stabilization?

The gimbal stabilizes mechanically, while the phone's stabilization works inside the device. How big the difference is depends on the smartphone, your movement, and the settings. Best to shoot a short comparison clip yourself.

Does tracking work with Moblin?

That varies with the smartphone, operating system, and app version. Test tracking and camera control thoroughly before a long stream. More about the app under Moblin.

Can I use a microphone on the gimbal?

Yes. The Osmo Mobile 7P takes compatible DJI microphones through the multifunction module. A USB-C microphone receiver must not block the gimbal or the charging port. You will find more options under Microphones for IRL Streams.

What is the difference between the Osmo Mobile 7P and 8?

We tested the 7P ourselves and recommend it. The Osmo Mobile 8 is newer and has 360-degree pan rotation plus AI tracking with audio and lighting. Extension pole and tripod are built into both. The table above puts the two in context.
