Download and basics
Teleport is an OBS plugin with its own resource page. The basics of scenes and sources are in the OBS guide.
1. What is Teleport?
Teleport is an open, NDI™-like OBS plugin for sending an OBS scene between computers on the local network. It is not NDI™ compatible and needs Teleport on the OBS systems involved.
2. Typical IRL setup
mobile camera signal → first OBS computer → Teleport over LAN → main OBS → platform
This can help when one computer prepares or decodes the sources and a second computer handles the actual broadcast. How the camera signal gets to the first computer on the road is covered, for example, on the SRTLA & bonding and SRTLA relay server pages.
3. Installation and testing
- Install compatible OBS and Teleport versions on both computers.
- Put both systems on the same trusted, wired network.
- On the sending OBS, provide the scene you want for Teleport.
- On the receiving OBS, add a Teleport source.
- Test resolution, frame rate, audio, sync, and behavior when the network drops.
| Test point | What to watch for |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | match the scene in the main OBS |
| Audio and sync | picture and sound stay in sync |
| Network outage | know beforehand what the Teleport source does |
4. Teleport or NDI™?
| Route | Advantage | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Teleport | direct OBS-to-OBS route | no NDI™ compatibility |
| NDI™ | wide ecosystem of cameras and software | mind the runtime, plugin, and network needs |
5. Network and security
- use Gigabit Ethernet where possible instead of shared Wi-Fi
- don't make the production network publicly reachable
- open the firewall only for the local connections you need
- don't set up an unprotected forward to the public internet
General security notes for your setup are in IRL safety.
6. Common questions about Teleport
Is Teleport the same as NDI™?
No. Teleport is an open, NDI™-like OBS plugin, but it is not NDI™ compatible. Teleport has to be installed on every OBS system involved. Teleport does not exchange video with NDI™ cameras or software.
Does Teleport work over the internet?
Teleport is meant for computers on the same local network. Don't set up an unprotected forward to the public internet, and don't make your production network publicly reachable.
Is Wi-Fi enough for Teleport?
For full scenes, a cable is the safer choice, ideally Gigabit Ethernet. Wi-Fi that you share with others is more likely to fluctuate. Test resolution, frame rate, audio, and sync in your own environment.
Why would I need two computers?
Two computers are worth it when one prepares or decodes the sources and the second handles the actual broadcast. For many simple IRL setups, a single OBS computer is enough.
What happens if the network goes down?
It is best to test that beforehand. Disconnect and see how the Teleport source behaves in the main OBS. Then set a fallback plan. The emergency and outage plan can help with that.
