Good audio is one of the most important foundations for a successful mobile livestream.
Clear value favorite
DJI Mic Mini Complete Set
The set with two transmitters, a receiver, and a charging case is our clear overall recommendation for IRL streaming. It is not just for beginners, but for anyone who wants a compact, complete, well-priced wireless mic set. You can prepare a solo stream with it just as easily as a conversation between two people.
Why is it our favorite? The whole package combines very good value with long power reserves from the charging case, small, light transmitters, and a complete set of accessories.
Test before the stream: Check the connection, level, windscreen, range, and power supply with the exact smartphone, camera, or encoder you will use later. Noise reduction does not replace a correctly fitted windscreen.
Also available as cheaper variants: Almost all of the DJI microphone systems listed have stripped-down bundles, for example with only one transmitter, without the charging case, or with a dedicated smartphone receiver. You can select these variants directly on the product page after opening the Amazon link. Compare what's in the box carefully. For longer IRL streams, a complete set with a charging case is usually the more practical choice.
Simplest option for Moblin
2. DJI Mic Mini directly on your smartphone
For mobile streams with Moblin on a USB-C smartphone, this combination is especially simple: the small phone receiver plugs straight into the smartphone, the two transmitters connect wirelessly, and Moblin can use the audio as an external audio source. That makes the set work for a solo stream as well as for conversations between two people.
two very light DJI Mic Mini transmitters
direct USB-C phone receiver, no bulky camera receiver
plug-and-play setup for compatible smartphones, tablets, and computers
currently a particularly affordable option for mobile IRL streams
Check before use: The smartphone has to support audio accessories over USB-C. Check the external audio source in Moblin, and before the livestream test both transmitters, the level, the windscreen, and charging at the same time.
This variant is more flexible if you don't want to use the microphone system only with a phone. The regular receiver connects to a compatible smartphone through the included USB-C phone adapter, or to a camera through the 3.5 mm TRS cable. Two transmitters allow conversations and interviews with two people here too.
two DJI Mic Mini transmitters and one regular receiver
USB-C phone adapter for compatible smartphones and Moblin
3.5 mm TRS cable for suitable cameras
makes sense if the set needs to switch between smartphone and camera use
4. DJI Mic Mini: recommended complete set with 2 transmitters, receiver, and charging case
We especially recommend this complete set because two transmitters, the regular receiver, the charging case, and the important basic accessories all come together in the box. That makes the setup complete from the start, and the charging case gives you extra power on the go.
two transmitters for one or two speakers
receiver for compatible smartphones and cameras
charging case for storage and extra power
windscreen and the necessary basic accessories in the set
The DJI Mic Mini 2S is the interesting middle step for anyone who likes how small the regular Mic Mini is but wants extra audio insurance on the move. The internal 32-bit float recording can run alongside the livestream. If the wireless link drops or the level was poor, you still have a high-quality local audio track for recording, highlights, or later editing.
two light transmitters, receiver, and charging case in the linked complete set
up to 28 hours of internal recording and 32-bit float as a valuable backup copy
adaptive level control and two-stage noise reduction for changing IRL environments
up to four compatible transmitters on one receiver, interesting for groups and interviews
direct OsmoAudio connection with selected compatible DJI cameras
Our take: The Mic Mini remains the clear value winner. The Mic Mini 2S is worth it if you want to keep the compact form but also need an internal backup recording and more flexibility with several people. If you want to plug an external 3.5 mm lavalier into the transmitter, the DJI Mic 2 is still the one to get.
The DJI Mic 2 is the right pick if you want to use an external lavalier or another compatible 3.5 mm microphone on the transmitter. The currently linked variant includes one transmitter and one receiver, which makes it especially good for solo streams.
one transmitter and one receiver in the currently available variant
3.5 mm mic input on the transmitter for compatible external microphones
internal 32-bit float recording as additional insurance
bigger and more expensive than the especially compact DJI Mic Mini
The black RØDE Lavalier GO is our preferred add-on for the DJI Mic 2. The discreet clip-on microphone connects to the transmitter through its 3.5 mm TRS plug. That lets you wear the DJI transmitter out of sight while the small mic capsule sits close to your voice.
3.5 mm TRS connector for the mic input of the DJI Mic 2 transmitter
omnidirectional condenser capsule for natural speech recording
can be placed discreetly on clothing or a collar
before use, test the plug, level, strain relief, and windscreen
The DJI Mic 3 is also an excellent system. It offers modern, extensive features and very compact transmitters. Unlike the DJI Mic 2, though, its transmitter has no regular 3.5 mm input for an external lavalier microphone.
two compact transmitters, receiver, and charging case in the complete set
high-quality, modern overall feature set
very interesting if you want to use the built-in microphones
The RØDE VideoMicro II works as a small shotgun mic for a camera or mobile device when you want speech and sounds in front of the camera emphasized more. It runs without its own battery over the 3.5 mm connection. The box includes both a foam windscreen and a furry windscreen for outdoor use.
compact supercardioid pickup pattern
3.5 mm TRS and TRRS cables included for matching cameras and mobile devices
HELIX shock mount reduces handling and body noise
furry windscreen for stronger wind already included
Important for good outdoor audio: A shotgun mic replaces neither being close to the sound source nor a good windscreen. Before the stream, check the connection type, input level, and the smartphone adapter you need. At a greater distance, this mic also picks up more of the surroundings.

11. Testing your microphone before the stream
Test the connection with the device that will stream later: smartphone, camera, or encoder.
Set the level and talk while walking.
Fit the windscreen and test in wind. Noise reduction does not replace it.
Check range, battery, and charging at the same time. More on that under Power supply.
Listen to a short test recording, ideally with headphones.
How the audio continues in OBS and through a speaker or headphones is covered under IRL audio. You'll find audio output for alerts and TTS under TTS in your livestream.
12. Common questions about microphones
Which microphone is right for getting started?
The DJI Mic Mini Complete Set. It comes with two transmitters, a receiver, and the charging case. It is compact and works for solo streams as well as two-person conversations. Try it first with the phone, camera, or encoder you will actually use.
Can I use the wireless mic directly with my smartphone?
Yes, with the USB-C phone receiver. Your smartphone has to support audio accessories over USB-C. Then check Moblin for the external audio source. Before the stream, test both transmitters, the level, the windscreen, and charging at the same time.
Wireless mic or shotgun mic: which fits better?
A wireless mic sits close to your voice. A shotgun mic emphasizes what happens in front of the camera. It does not replace being close to the sound source or a good windscreen. And the farther away it is, the more surroundings it picks up.
What is the internal recording in the transmitter for?
It also saves the audio locally as a backup. That helps if the wireless link drops or the level was off. It does not replace the livestream audio. Test it beforehand. According to the descriptions above, the Mic Mini 2S and the Mic 2, among others, have this feature.
How do I deal with wind and noise?
A windscreen that is properly fitted does more than any noise reduction. Clip the mic close to your voice and record a test outside. More on levels and filters is at IRL audio.
