Version 1.0, the first without beta
The IRL4YOU BOX is an independent add-on for the BELABOX: picture-in-picture with up to four cameras, controlled through its own web interface. In version 1.0 the word “beta” is gone. The cameras ran for days straight, most recently 47.5 hours. Twitch was tested with a real account, and one streamer confirmed the preview over Tailscale on his own box.
A fresh install takes one command. If you already have the BOX, update it from the “Software update” card.
1. What is proven
- Continuous operation. An Orange Pi 5 Plus with four DJI cameras at the same time (two Osmo Action 4, one Action 5 Pro, one Action 6) and a GoPro Hero 8 ran with a main picture and three small pictures at about 11 to 13 Mbps. The cameras ran for days straight, most recently 47.5 hours on a home network (October 6 to 8, 2026). That was on a freshly flashed card with the install command and a restored backup.
- Twitch. Tested with a real account on October 10, 2026: login, reading and writing chat, moderation. Login works for streamers, moderators, and viewers.
- Preview over Tailscale. A streamer confirmed it the same day on his own box.
- DJI Osmo Pocket 3. It sends to the box over RTMP. Battery level and charging state come in over Bluetooth.
2. What is new since 0.9.229
- Preview over Tailscale. You can switch it on. If it is blocked, the interface shows the actual reason.
- “Picture layout missing” notice. If “Go live” does not work yet because no picture layout is saved, a notice now says so.
- “Search for networks” on DJI cameras shows the cause when it does not work.
- All 14 languages are complete. Apart from German, they are machine translated and have not been checked by native speakers.
- README and guides have been tidied up and link to irl4you.de.
One function still carries the word beta: “All cameras always ready”. It is off by default.
3. Fixes in 1.0.1 to 1.0.3
- 1.0.1, remote access: If the box is connected to Tailscale but not shared yet, the card shows a warning box with the “Open Tailscale settings” button. There you turn on MagicDNS and HTTPS certificates and share the interface once.
- 1.0.2, Bluetooth driver: At startup the box checks whether the Bluetooth module is loaded and reloads it if needed. New is the “Set up driver now” button under Connections → Bluetooth, with a progress bar.
- 1.0.3, DJI cameras: A running stream is no longer interrupted for no reason. A single unreadable statistics request could end the session and cause a 6-second outage. Now the session ends only after 30 seconds without a stream, and a pure Bluetooth loss lets the stream keep running.
4. What is not proven yet
- GoPro Hero 9 to 13
- DJI Osmo Action 2 and 3
- Starlink
If you have problems with these devices, please open a ticket on GitHub. A crossfade when switching the main picture is still planned.
5. Install or update
- Fresh install: One command on the box. The full guide with video is at Install the IRL4YOU BOX.
- Existing box: In the interface, open the “Software update (IRL4YOU BOX)” card, click “Check for updates” and then “Install update”, but not during a broadcast. You do not need to reinstall.
- Back to an earlier version: Use “Switch to a specific version” in the same card.
There is no new ready-made image for 1.0.0. The latest ready-made image for the Orange Pi 5 Plus belongs to version 0.9.161 and is on the releases page on GitHub.
6. The videos
Version 1.0 in a short video
The Short (0:44 minutes) introduces version 1.0 and sums up what is proven and what is not. The English Short shows the same thing.
The installation step by step
The longer video (5:44 minutes, video in German) shows the installation on the BELABOX from start to finish. Its title and description still say “beta”. The guide on this site is the authoritative version.
7. More on the BOX
