Animated diagram: on the left the config.json file with six sections, from stats source through OBS WebSocket, scenes and limits, optional scenes, and behavior to user and chat. On the right the OBS scenes Live, Low, and backup scene BRB, which NOALBS switches between. Below, a note that the Twitch OAuth token belongs in the local .env and not in config.json

Prepare NOALBS v2 without hand-editing JSON

All inputs and the finished file are created entirely in your browser. IRL4YOU neither receives nor stores your OBS password or stream ID.

Test before going live: Scene names are case-sensitive. The stats URL must be reachable from the NOALBS computer.

1. Stats source

2. OBS WebSocket

3. Scenes and limits

4. Optional scenes

5. Behavior

6. User and chat basics

7. Check and download config.json

No OAuth token in this file: According to the NOALBS documentation, Twitch credentials belong in the local .env file. Do not publish this file or your OBS WebSocket password. You can create the chat access you need separately with the Twitch OAuth token generator.

8. Putting the file in place

  1. Back up your existing NOALBS configuration.
  2. Put the downloaded file in the NOALBS folder as config.json.
  3. Check the scenes and the WebSocket server in OBS.
  4. Open the stats page in the browser on the NOALBS computer.
  5. Start NOALBS with a private test stream first and check low, brb, and the return to live.

What the NOALBS config.json controls

The configuration connects the stream stats with OBS. NOALBS reads the state of the incoming IRL stream and, depending on bitrate, connection status, and time limits, can switch between prepared OBS scenes. For that, the generator puts the stats source, OBS WebSocket, scene names, limits, and optional chat behavior into one structured config.json.

It does not install NOALBS and does not check a real connection to OBS or to the streaming server. The spelling and capitalization of scene names have to match OBS exactly. The finished file is therefore a starting point for a controlled test, not a guarantee of automatic scene switches.

Testing NOALBS and OBS safely

You will find more basics in the NOALBS guide, under OBS Studio for IRL streaming, and on the Twitch OAuth for NOALBS page.

Setup service & consulting

If the stats source or the scene switching does not work, you can reach out in the IRL4YOU Discord with a cleaned-up configuration. Remove passwords and stream keys first.
