Experimental pre-release: published
Source code, the full guide, checks, and the current project status are provided centrally in the official IRL4YOU repository on GitHub. This site deliberately keeps only the technical assessment.

What the fix changes
In the Wi-Fi driver, an internal queue is fully initialized. The related error BUG: spinlock bad magic was confirmed on the updated original system and no longer occurred on reboot with the tested fix.
The original module stays in place. The fix is independent of PIP, fan control, camera addresses, and stream credentials.
When this Wi-Fi fix makes sense
The fix is aimed only at the documented initialization error of the internal RTL8852BE Wi-Fi module in the tested ROCK 5B Plus system. A matching sign is the message BUG: spinlock bad magic in the system log. Without that error and without the listed hardware, the driver should not be installed as a precaution.
Poor Wi-Fi reception, a wrongly typed password, an overloaded hotspot, or an IP address the router did not assign have other causes. A cellular hotspot that briefly disappears is not automatically a driver error either. Check connection problems like these first, independently of the fix.
Only for the tested system state
- Radxa ROCK 5B Plus with the internal RTL8852BE.
- Base image
belabox_rock_5b_plus-20250915-a84acea, then regular updates. - Kernel
5.10.160-belabox #167, kernel package20260116-1.
The image file name was confirmed, but its archive checksum is not available yet. Other images, kernels, or Wi-Fi chips are not approved.
Check before installing
- Compare the device model, Wi-Fi chip, BELABOX image, and kernel with the published test status.
- Keep a working wired connection or another way back ready in case Wi-Fi is not available after the reboot.
- Back up your own configurations and read the current guide in the GitHub repository in full.
- Make sure the power supply is stable during installation and reboot.
The source code and the check steps are publicly viewable. Even so, the installation remains a deliberate change to the Wi-Fi driver. It should not happen during a running production stream or right before one.
Tested so far
23 package tests, the driver build, installation, and the reboot check have been completed. WLAN 0 passed a short router test and five minutes of receiving from two cameras. A following 15-minute test with main camera output over LAN and Opus stayed unremarkable in the monitored readings.
Wi-Fi as an extra sending path, longer operation, and further fallback tests are still to come. WLAN 1 is not approved for simultaneous connections to a second router.
Testing after installation
After the reboot, first check whether the internal Wi-Fi interface is visible again and connects reliably to your intended router or hotspot. After that, a short test stream is a good idea, using the same resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you will actually use later.
A single successful connection is not enough for an assessment. Watch the reboot, the reconnection, and a longer stream. If kernel messages, dropped connections, or an unreachable Wi-Fi show up, end the test and restore the documented original state. Bug reports must not contain passwords, stream keys, or private credentials.
Privacy and external processing
The GitHub repository is not embedded in this page. So reading this page loads no content from GitHub, and no data is sent to GitHub because of the repository link.
Only when you deliberately open the external link do you leave irl4you.de. GitHub may then process, in particular, your IP address and device, browser, download, and usage data under its own privacy terms. IRL4YOU gets no access to your GitHub account. Credentials, Wi-Fi passwords, and private configuration files do not belong in public issues, logs, or bug reports.
Common questions
When should I install the Wi-Fi fix?
Only if you use a Radxa ROCK 5B Plus with the internal RTL8852BE in the tested system state and the system log contains the message BUG: spinlock bad magic. If the error or the hardware is missing, do not install the driver just in case.
Does the fix solve all BELABOX crashes?
No. It fixes one specifically proven initialization error in the Wi-Fi driver, nothing more. It is not shown to solve all crashes. And it is an experimental pre-release without production approval.
My Wi-Fi reception is bad. Will the fix help?
Probably not. Poor reception, a wrong password, an overloaded hotspot, or a missing IP address have other causes. Sort out things like that first, without the fix.
Can I install the fix shortly before a stream?
Better not. You are deliberately changing the Wi-Fi driver. You do not do that in the middle of a stream, and not right before one either. Keep a wired connection or another way back ready, and back up your configuration first.
Where do I find the source code and the guide?
In the official IRL4YOU repository belabox-wlan-fix on GitHub. Before installing, read the README, test status, and compatibility check there. Related: BELABOX setup and the ROCK 5B+ fan control.
